New minimum wage for work permits

Eight companies out of ten feel that there is a lack of suitable labor in Sweden. As companies find it difficult to find competence in Sweden, many employers choose to try to hire people who currently live outside Sweden's borders.

The Swedish parliament has now voted through the proposal to raise the maintenance requirement for labor immigrants from countries outside the EU, the Nordic countries and Switzerland. The starting point must be that a work permit must only be granted if the work to which labor immigration takes place normally has a wage level corresponding to the median wage. This means that anyone with a salary below SEK 33,200 a month should not be able to get a work permit. The limit has previously been set at SEK 13,000 in monthly salary.

For you as an employer, it is important to take this into account if you are considering hiring people where a work permit is required.
